Story Bird: Paulie
Paulie is a Blue Crowned Conure. Paulie's wings were beginning to grow out a little in between stages of wing clippings, I didn't want to stress him out every time he had a feather grow out so I put it off until there were a few feathers. Not a good idea in my house while introducing my new Sun to my husband in the other room Paulie became jealous and wanted to see me. I didn't realize there was a steak frying on the stove my husband turned and yelled "Bird on the fry pan!!" and there was Paulie, standing on the edge of the pan, feet frying. I managed to get him off the pan minus 2 tail feathers, dusted his bleeding butt with flour and cooled off those hot feet. We used a salve and saline water to clean his feet several times a day until the blisters healed. We have all learned our lesson here - keep the birds trimmed constantly as long as it's not a blood feather. By the way Paulie had only 2 flight feathers on each side grown out at the time of the accident.
Note: For most bird owners wing clipping is a must. But remember, even with wings trimmed our feathered friends can get into trouble. Please make sure your home is safe, especially when the birds are outside of their cages.
