Story Bird: Molly

Molly, my Blue Front Amazon loves her toys, as do my other two birds, Coco, a Blue Crown Conure, and Ringo, an Arican Ringneck Parrot. I had bought a couple of toys off Ebay from a vendor  who stresses their toys are bird safe, and I do believe them, but I have since discovered that "bird safe" does not necessarily mean Molly safe. Molly likes toys with sisal rope on them the best and she had one (well actually a few) in her cage (all the ends were very frayed as it is a preening toy that doubles as a chew toy with lots of wood). I was sitting on the computer in the room next to where my bird cages are. The birds were very quiet which is unusual for the middle of the day. I got up to check on them and noticed that Molly was hanging from the top of her cage by her beak (okay -- she is playing quietly) and my other two were hanging off the side of their cage watching her, when she saw me she made an attempt to flap her wings but did not let go of the cage, she did manage to move a bit but I also noticed that the toy she was next to moved with her. I went out into the kitchen to get a better look, and then I saw that her foot was wrapped in the toy, and although she was holding the cage with her top beak her bottom beak was open and she was panting. I opened the cage and grabbed her, and quickly undid the toy from the cage and pulled her and the toy out.  Her body temperature was pretty high (she was very hot) I had the air conditioning on in my bedroom and quick took her into there to examine the foot. She was wrapped so tight that two toes were bent up by her ankle and the other ones were wrapped together. It took me almost ten minutes to cut her loose, the rope was already starting to cut into her ankle (no blood but a little red). I had to separate the toy from the tangle before I could even start to free her. When I finally got her loose she was running all over the place on her foot so I know that nothing is broken she has complete grasp and is not even favoring her foot now.
