Story Bird: C.J.
After finishing a phone call, I
chanced to notice C.J. had jammed
his head thru the hole of a hanging
acrylic square toy with spinners on
each corner. I had to use pliers to
unscrew the c-link from the cage
ceiling to avoid him hanging
himself, and even then the toy was
jammed on his head. With a blanket
ready for a vet ride to saw it off,
he flopped to the floor and the toy
popped off his head. The only
saving grace of this episode is
that he became my dearest friend
after this, I guess I was his
"savior". Lessons learned here are
to make sure all toys are
sized-appropriate and more
important, to be ever vigilant with
our birds.

Birdsafe note: The key thing to learn here is to make sure your bird doens't have any toys that they can get their head through. While our birds are very intelligent, sometimes they panic when caught in a situation and they cannot "reason" their way out.
