Story Bird: Cloudy

I purchased manzanita perches, complete with hardware,(large washers, bolts and wing-nuts) from a pet store. Because I purchased them from a pet store, I assumed that they were safe for my bird... WRONG! My vet just called and informed me that Cloudy tested positive for high levels of zinc toxicity. I took a closer look at those perches, and realized that the washers had actually rusted on the side that was against the cage!  I had also assumed, incorrectly, that quick link was a brand name and that all quick links were stainless steel... WRONG AGAIN!!

Please replace all hardware with in your bird's cage with hardware you know for sure is stainless steel.
When in doubt, toss it out!!!
