Story Bird: Whinny
Hi everyone I have a very sad story to tell. Yesterday I put my Greenwing Macaw
Whinny to rest. She was 9 months old and so very sweet. As some of you know I do
shows for the YMCA, schools and others as I not only breed but rescue birds.
Whinny was so much a big part of letting people and kids see how cool and
wonderful these guys are and why we need to keep them safe.
Now on to what happened. Whinny loved to play outside with the other Macaws on
there gym that is under a very big tree. She was the only one that could get
over the stops we put up but she always came down when it was time to go in.
Well, last Friday she found an old birds nest in the tree, by Monday she had
gotten so sick from all the bacteria in the old nest that it was a fight just to
keep her alive. But she started to come around when on Sunday she had a relapse
and passed away in my arms on the way back to the vets. I just got her back
yesterday and have laid her to rest. Why I am telling you all this is so Whinny
can still teach even when she is no longer here. Please guys, birds will play
with anything and wild birds can course so much harm to our guys. They carry so
much that can kill. Please know what your guys are doing at all times and keep
them away from wild birds.
Thank you Deborah Shell
